Richard E. Hulina is a founder and principal of Hulina LLC and a founder of The Reliant Group, both real estate development companies.

For over ten years prior to forming Hulina LLC and The Reliant Group, Mr. Hulina was President of HSA READ (Real Estate Acquisition & Development) and a Principal with Hiffman Shaffer Associates (HSA) and was also responsible for the company’s Retail Division. While at HSA, Mr. Hulina developed more than 10 large-scale retail projects totaling over 2 million sq. ft.

Mr. Hulina has had an extensive real estate background in the shopping center industry for some 30 years where he was involved in more than fifty enclosed regional malls and specialty retail centers across the United States.

For five years prior to joining HSA, he was a Partner and Executive Vice President of the Vantage/Bradford Companies Midwest Division. He formed the Retail Development Group and was responsible for the overall development and leasing one million square feet of shopping centers, including specialty, neighborhood and power strip centers. Chicago area projects include Broadview Village Square (742,152 sq. ft.) in Broadview, South Loop Marketplace (115,000 sq. ft.) in Chicago, The Century Shopping Centre (163,000 sq. ft.) and The Broadway (133,000 sq. ft.) both in Lakeview, Bedford City Square (250,000 sq. ft.) in Bedford Park, Orland Park Place (600,000 sq. ft.) in Orland Park, Hawthorn Hills Fashion Square (200,000 sq. ft.) and River Tree Court (300,000 sq. ft.) both in Vernon Hills, Hinsdale Lake Commons (200,000 sq. ft.) in Willowbrook, Quentin Corners (50,000 sq. ft.) in Palatine, Townes Crossing (175,000 sq. ft.) in Oswego, Westridge Court (600,000 sq. ft.) in Naperville, Deerpath Court (200,000 sq. ft.) in Lake Zurich and Grandview Court (175,000 sq. ft.) in Waukegan.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hulina spent thirteen years with Sears and Homart Development Company. After two years as Store Location Research Manager for Sears, he joined Homart Development Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sears and Coldwell Banker. While at Homart, Mr. Hulina served as Development Director - Regional Malls; Vice President - Land Development and Vice President of Leasing. Mr. Hulina’s various responsibilities included overseeing regional mall development on the West Coast; marketing and developing the peripheral land surrounding some forty regional malls nationally and directing a staff of thirty-five leasing professionals. Chicago area regional malls included Northbrook Court, Woodfield Mall, Springhill Mall, Louis Joliet Mall, Fox Valley Mall and Orland Square Mall.

Mr. Hulina is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and serves on the Illinois State Committee of ICSC. He is a State of Illinois licensed Real Estate Broker and a member of the Presidents Council of the University of Illinois. Mr. Hulina also serves on the executive board of the Herald E. Eisenberg Foundation.
